PS: A normal project for me consists of Ableton Live, 6-8 virtual synths (sylenth-1, Minimonsta, Alchemy for example), maybe 10-15 effects (incl. I don't know anything that beats that, really. Comparing a built-in AC97 soundcard with Asio4All to a good PCI card with its own ASIO driver, you can get 2-3x lower latency. Realize that while asio4all is pretty good, it's just a band-aid that will help your not-so-great-kinda-shitty soundcard perform in a bearable way.
